After 8 years, Acura is bringing back its Type S model, discontinued in 2011. The company announced at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show that it will bring back Type S by 2024 and it seems they are on track to keep that promise.
They unveiled the new prototype at Monterey Car Show, during the Car week. Fans of the Type S will be delighted by the new performance car from Acura.

“Everyone at Acura is aligned around performance,” Jon Ikeda, Acura’s vice president, said at the Type S Concept’s premiere. “This is the time for Type S.”
The model that was shown is the new TLX Type S. The front part, with its wide shape and sharp angles, is clearly influenced by the NSX. It would seem that the interior isn’t finished yet, since door were kept closed and all windows were heavily tinted and opaque.

From the look of it, new Acura Type S will feature all-wheel drive and Brembo four-piston brake calipers. The engine wasn’t mentioned, but it will probably be the new twin-turbocharged V6 Acura is developing.

Previously, Type S featured a 260-horsepower V6 on the 3.2CL and 3.2TL models and 200-horsepower I4 on RSX. The last model before the production was halted, was 2007 TL Type S, with an improved 286-horsepower V6 engine. Almost all Type S models had a manual gearbox, so it is reasonable to expect it on a new model as well.
