Tips for Anxiety Treatment – Relief & Management

Anxiety is a serious issue and it needs to be addressed. Anxiety causes stress on the body and the mind, and you should always be aware that it happens to everyone, every day. Sometimes it can cause severe disorders that need to be professionally treated, but even when you are, there are ways of treating it, other than just medication. Here are some tips for anxiety treatment relief & management.

Keep Physically Active

This is one of the most important ways to deal with anxiety. Have a lot of stress and anxiety? Go on a walk. Do some cardio, or do a workout session. This will help you get things off of your mind and help you rest later.

Sleep is Good

Everyone knows it, and it’s hard for everyone to get 8 hours of sleep per night, but it’s highly recommended. If you have problems with sleeping, there are numerous things you can do, such as breathing exercises, holding your breath repetitively, get off of electronic devices at least an hour before bed, keep your room temperature cool (but cover up well if you make it cool), be sure your bed is nice and made, and try to have a sleep schedule.

Avoid Stimulants

Caffeine and beverages can make anxiety happen more than it will help. You can easily eliminate the amount of caffeine your intake per day. Instead of drinking a pot of coffee, drink one cup, then drink the same amount of water to counter it.

Schedule a Time for Anxiety

Take about 30 minutes or so per day to get your anxiety out of the way and make a scheduled time to do it. By doing this, you won’t constantly wonder about possibilities and can help yourself reasonably.

Take Control of Your Fears

Anxiety is often caused by fear, and when we have fear, we get afraid of everything else worse. As the saying goes fear is not real, fear is caused by the unknown, and the only thing to fear is fear itself. What this means is that by thinking constantly of the unknown, you develop and worry which makes matters worse. There’s a difference in being concerned about something and worrying. When you worry, you let go of other things that can help overcome your fear, or even troublesome situations and instead of getting the job done, you spend more time dwelling on the subject.

Stretching is not only a form of exercise but also a great relaxation technique. Some of these can even be done while you’re lying in bed. Try outstretching your arms, legs, hands, and feet, then clench your fists and toes for about 10 seconds, then release and relax. This and other formal exercise stretches can help you be less tense and get a better night’s rest.

Anxiety is treatable, and although sometimes it requires medication in order to treat it, doing some of the things in this list will help reduce your stress and anxiety greatly. If you’re feeling jumpy, and nervous all the time, don’t hesitate to call a therapist. There are many that are there for you, and their job is to be there for you and not judge you for your thoughts. Many therapists offer phone consultation before an appointment as well and can help you greatly. Aside from that, stick to what’s in this list and you’ll feel better in no time.
